ELLIE LAUGHLIN has become all but numb to her artistic failures - until her successful indie folk-rock brother JENSON comes back home. Against her better judgment, she agrees to film a “rock-doc” of her estranged brother's band, Broken Smile, as they record their new album in an abandoned church Bob Dylan once played in.
Unearthing years of emotional tension and humor-laden resentment it's not long before Jenson has to deal with the guilt of not being the best brother and son, Ellie faces her worst insecurities, all the while trying hard to not get ensnared in a sibling-style battle of egos.
"BROKEN SMILE" employs a mix of dry, absurdist humor and egotistical neurosis to get to the sometimes painful reality of family dynamics.
